What A Privilege & A Blessing! James was rescued from the streets by our loving Lord Jesus through The Homeless Church of San Francisco. Having lived on the streets himself, he became the Pastor's Assistant with a unique perspective. His first-hand experiences gave him an especially compassionate heart towards those who were still suffering from addiction. He was once a singer on the same R&B/Jazz circuits as B.B. King and a number of other well-known performers. He later decided to use the gift of a beautiful voice to sing gospel with a group called One Spirit. Although he has been asked to do radio interviews and speak before men's groups and Pastor's meetings, his greatest joy has always come from bringing food, blankets, prayers and Jesus to those who are still on the streets. Karla saw a 78 second video that changed her life! The 700 Club featured The Homeless Church of San Francisco and while Karla was watching this little video, she felt the presence of the Lord so powerfully she fell to her knees. After several days of prayer, she contacted The Homeless Church and was invited out for a visit. She spent a week in San Francisco and when she went back to her home church, she met with one of the Pastors there. Together, they decided she should put her house on the market and see what God would do. The next day, she mentioned to someone at the garage where her car was being serviced about her plans put her house on the market and move to California. Six days later, the woman showed up at her door with a realtor who waived the $6,000 commission. She offered the full asking price for the house, bought all the furniture, lawn tractor, etc. and even offered to keep Karla's cat! Now that's God in action - making His will known, don't you think? So, Karla quit her corporate job in Connecticut, gave away any possessions that wouldn't fit in her car and drove across the country to volunteer full-time running the woman's home for The Homeless Church. Little did she know that her Father also had a husband waiting for her here in San Francisco! She and James were married on March 30, 2003. Together, James and Karla opened, lived in and ran a home for women called The May Rose Home as part of The Homeless Church of San Francisco under Pastor Evan Prosser and April Prosser. What a tremendous, life-changing experience! Between frequent 'street visits' to folks still living in the streets and daily Bible studies in the home, their life was incredibly full of the presence of the Lord. They witnessed God's hand personally affecting the lives of those who were seeking Him in amazing ways. What an incredible privilege God had granted them - allowing them to live among some very precious people who were fighting their way out of drugs and street living and learning to accept and live in the love our Father has for us. After a season of the most rewarding work either of us has ever even dreamed of being a part of, we eventually moved from San Francisco to Stockton and now look fondly back on our time with The Homeless Church - and forward to whatever God has planned for our future!
NEWS FLASH --- (4/11/08) God brought us out of the desert (Stockton) and BACK TO SAN FRANCISCO!! We're staying at The Homeless Church men's home while we wait on God for a permanent living arrangement. We're back in the streets doing what we love most. Thanks to all who prayed for a way back home for us.
